REVIEW | Despicable Me 2 (2013)

Despicable Me 2 (reviewed independently from its predecessor) stars an ex-villain and Uncle Fester look-alike named Drew (Steve Carell), who cares for three little orphaned girls and is surrounded by his "minions," these yellow bespectacled capsules that speak in gibberish.

The movie seems to have been created to make money out of these "cute" minions and the story created as just a secondary thing.

The plot is thin, ultra cliche-ish and predictable, and the humor is derived from clumsiness and body actions. It's pure slapstick comedy, with zero wit, that even if you mute the movie, you'll have the same experience.

Despicable Me 2 is all about colorful visuals and senselessness. Shallow, one-dimensional characters that deliver laughs whenever they fall down the stairs or get smeared in the face with cupcakes.

Perfect for little kids who still cannot comprehend dialogue, for fans of slapstick comedy, and for anybody who finds the minions the cutest creatures in cinematic history.

If you're not a fan of slapstick comedy like me, you'll die of boredom.
