A man is torn in a twisted love triangle between his ex, now a zombie, and a newfound friend in the horror-comedy “Burying The Ex.”
Joe Dante, known for his deft helming in unforgettable entertaining movies such as “Gremlins,” “Looney Tunes: Back in Action” and in television series “Twilight Zone” and “Masters of Horror,” directs Anton Yelchin, Ashley Greene and Alexandra Daddario in “Burying The Ex” about a man trying to call it quits with his ex while trying to go for his dream girl. Yelchin plays nice guy Max who recently moved in with his beautiful girlfriend, Evelyn (Greene). But when Evelyn turns out to be a controlling, manipulative nightmare, Max then decides to call it quits. There’s just one problem: he’s terrified of breaking up with her. Fate steps in when Evelyn is the victim of a fatal, freak accident, leaving Max single and ready to mingle. Just as Max is thinking about moving on with what could be his dream girl, Olivia (Daddario) – Evelyn has returned from the grave and is determined to get her boyfriend back...even if that means transforming him into one of the undead.
“Burying the Dead” was recently featured in this year’s Riviera Maya Film Festival where novelty ideas are utilized to present films in the broader international community. Presenting at the festival are Joe Dante and Anton Yelchin wherein Dante reiterated that the movie is the kind of film with an audience in contrast to critics ready to jot down observations and analysis. In her short review of the movie, Sasha Stone’s article as featured on www. Awardsdaily.com says that “Burying the Ex is funny, with Anton Yelchin playing a young man eager to dump his pretty but a tad needy girlfriend (Ashley Green). When she’s killed unexpectedly she morphs into a zombie and from then, funny/scary chaos. Sure, it’s not Citizen Kane and it’s not meant to be. It reminded me of the movies I used to see in the valley in the 1970s, rocking a pair of orange Dittos, a satin and terry cloth halter top, with my shag cut. Escaping the summer heat with a big bag of popcorn to watch something that silly was the stuff of a young cinema lover’s dream. Dante’s thumbprint exuberance is alive and well, so are the gross-outs here and there. Burying the Ex is sure to develop a cult following and become a favorite midnight movie.”
Some relationships just won’t die! “Burying The Ex” opens June 24 in cinemas from Pioneer Films.(PR)
