REAL-LIFE couple Roxanne Barcelo (“Wildflower”) and Will Devaughn (“Pinoy Big Brother, Celebrity Edition 2”) star in indie love story “I Found My Heart in Santa Fe,” which they also co-produced.
The movie will premiere on Sept. 15 in SM Cinema’s Cine Lokal theaters and will run for a week, until Sept. 21, for a ticket price of only P150.
“I Found My Heart in Santa Fe” is the first ever brand-new film released by Cine Lokal, which is FDCP’s (Film Development Council of the Philippines) ongoing effort to re-screen critically acclaimed indie films in select SM Cinemas for a low price.
After its one-week run in Cine Lokal, “I Found My Heart in Santa Fe” plans to have a regular commercial run in as many theaters nationwide.
WHAT’S THE STORY ABOUT?
Jennifer (Barcelo) manages a resort in Santa Fe, Cebu, when she meets a handsome tourist, Viktor (Devaughn), who arrives on the picturesque island in search of his biological mother.
Although sparks instantly fly between the two, Jennifer resists falling in love with Viktor, and as they tour the enchanting island, the two’s conflicted love story unravels.
At the film’s recent presscon on Aug. 29 at Victorino’s Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Barcelo revealed that her character is a reflection of her real personality, which is a “babaeng bakla,” meaning a straight woman who speaks gay lingo.
“It’s my coming-out film,” the actress, known for her strong personality and sense of humor, joked at the presscon, laughing.
FILM TOURISM
The film is directed by Bona Fajardo, known for pioneering digital filmmaking in the country and also for his previous tourism films, such as 2009’s “Iliw,” starring Kaye Abad and is set in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
“I Found My Heart in Santa Fe,” Fajardo’s latest tourism film, is set in Santa Fe, Cebu, a small paradise island that he discovered and fell in love with last year. It is the director’s advocacy to showcase the beauty of the Philippines through filmmaking.
Barcelo describes Santa Fe as truly magical, that it’s hard not to fall in love with the place and be influenced by the resilience, unpretentiousness and laid-back vibe of the islanders.
“You’ll leave taking a piece of the island with you in your heart,” she describes at the said presscon.
STILL GOING STRONG
The lovebirds admitted at the presscon that they were not on speaking terms during most of the shoot.
“Hindi kami bati noon,” Barcelo confessed at the presscon. So after every romantic scene and being affected by it, they would find themselves apologizing to each other, the two revealed to the media.
Devaughn and Barcelo both explained that their relationship began as a very strong friendship for two years. The two met in 2011 as presenters in Star Awards, became very close, and officially began dating in 2013. They admit to be still very much in love until now.
