After 15 years – and as the new theatrical film, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” starts screening in the Philippines on April 4 – the cast and creative team of SpongeBob Squarepants have had time to ponder the SpongeBob franchise's legacy.

"It's mind blowing just how big it's become and how long it's gone," muses Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob. "As an actor, you're perennially a freelance employee. We're a bit like migrant workers; we go where the crops are, and SpongeBob is a crop that just keeps growing."

"No one could have expected this," relates Rodger Bumpass, the voice of Squidward. "Long ago, I remember telling people about being involved in the pilot, and being met with a yawn or glazed indifference. Then about a year later, I mentioned the show to someone on the street and their eyes got real big. 'Whoa, you are so hip!' That was right when it started to take off, and it's been a wonderful, …

Costume and weapon makeovers for Hulk, Hawkeye and Captain America? Escrima sticks for Black Widow? These are just a few of the interesting fun facts that Marvel Studios has just revealed about the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Hulk got a welcomed upgrade to his wardrobe with the addition of stretchy pants, which he wears underneath his clothes. No more will he be caught in the embarrassing situation of being half-naked in shredded clothing when he Hulks-out—the pants, made of high-tech, microfiber fabric, stretch with him.

Thanks to Tony Stark’s engineering skills, Hawkeye received an upgrade to his weaponry. He now has many new arrow tips that serve different purposes. Some of these are explained in the movie and others the audience will just get the joy of seeing deployed on screen. Hawkeye’s quiver has also changed—it is more automated and faster loading, and is capable of holding nine arrows.

Hawkeye’s bow also received a makeover, with the classic black color being changed to…

REVIEW | Home (2015)

Gratuity "Tip" Tucci (Rihanna), a young Barbadian girl who lost her mother, and an alien called Oh (Jim Parsons), an extreme social outcast in the cowardly nomadic alien race called Boov, reluctantly team up for their own personal agendas. And as the two gradually form an unlikely friendship, they discover the difference between their species, the value of their uniqueness, and learn the true meaning of "home."

DreamWorks' latest 3D animated fare, written by Matt Ember and Tom J. Astle, and directed by Tim Johnson, is a cute and hilarious buddy-comedy based on Adam Rex's children's book The True Meaning of Smekday.

The source of the thigh-slapping humor is the Boov race, a bunch of pessimist wimps led by their narcissistic idiot leader, Captain Smek (hilariously voiced by Steve Martin), the wimpiest of the race. What makes the Boov even funnier is their transparency and inability to mask their true feelings and intentions, because they change color dep…

“Dream Large. Live Larger.” That's the mission statement of Warner Bros. Pictures' “Entourage,” the much-anticipated big-screen version of the award-winning hit HBO series, which has just released a new poster and trailer which may be viewed at HERE.

The film reunites the show’s original cast, led by Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven.

In “Entourage,” movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back…and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood.

Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as father and son, Larsen and Travis McCredle. Returning cast from the series also includes Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’s wife; Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan; Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh; Deb…

Miss Meadows is prim. Miss Meadows wears tap shoes every day. Miss Meadows carries a lovely little handgun in her tiny, pretty purse.

From the producers of the Academy Award-winning “Crazy Heart” comes the quirky, satirical comedy, “Miss Meadows” from writer-director Karen Leigh Hopkins (“Because I Said So,” “Stepmom”). The film will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting April 15.

Katie Holmes (“Batman Begins”) stars as the titular character Mary Meadows. James Badge Dale (“Iron Man 3”) and Callan Mulvey (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “300: Rise of an Empire”) also star.

Miss Meadows (Holmes) is not everything she seems in this satirical comedy about manners and mores and what happens when moral compasses go helter skelter against the messy magnets of real life. Holmes dons the role of a dainty vigilante, taking it upon herself to right the wrongs in this cruel world by whatever means necessary. Things become complicated, however, when she gets romantic…

REVIEW | Cinderella (2015)

Disney's Cinderella is presently garnering gushes from critics and moviegoers alike. However, I find myself belonging to the minute percentage that got disappointed in the live-action adaptation of the 1950's Disney animated classic.

Cinderella is true to the original Disney animated but provides ample back and side stories: Cinderella's childhood, her stepmother's pain, and more screen time for the prince (James Madden), his life, and the politics within the castle.

Similar to the perception of the small group that gave this movie a thumbs-down, Cinderella (Lily James) looks off her rocker here. Yes, loony. Her facial expression, gestures, and performance make her look nutty, that it makes you wonder if something snapped inside Cinderella when her father died. If you also notice their house, the decor has no sense, which all the more gives you an unsettling feeling of craziness.
In the animated film, it is endearing to see Cinderella being chummy with the house mice l…

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart join forces in Warner Bros. Pictures' new comedy “Get Hard,” also starring Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson.

In “Get Hard,” when millionaire hedge fund manager James King (Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in prison, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell Lewis (Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison.

Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other.

The idea for “Get Hard” originated with producing partners Will Ferrell and Adam McKay imagining what the average person might do if suddenly seized from a nice, comfortable life and confronted with the prospect of a 10-year stretch behind bars. Ferre…

Abrams and Bryan Burk through Bad Robot. Skydance Productions’ David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will serve as executive producers.

Anchoring the live action part in Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies' “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” is series newcomer and Hollywood legend Antonio Banderas (“The Mask of Zorro,” voice of “Puss in Boots”).

In the film, Banderas plays the villainous pirate, Burger Beard, who may or may not have something to do with the missing Krabby Patty recipe.

"Antonio Banderas is a very worthy inductee into the SpongeBob club," says Tom Kenny, who provides the voice SpongeBob Squarepants. "He's got that kind of old Hollywood movie star charisma. When he's on the screen, he just owns it."

"We couldn't be happier to have Antonio on board for this," says producer Mary Parent. "He’s such a versatile actor and he really brings to life this very funny and eccentric pirate."

Producer and screenwriter Paul Tibbitt agrees. "Antonio is an insanely physical guy, and has such a great comedic sensibility. His total commitment to the …

Now, “Fast & Furious 7” arrives as the crowning achievement in this ongoing saga—the best, biggest and most fulfilling Fast & Furious movie yet. Joss Whedon has Earth’s mightiest task on his hands.

The writer/director of Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” in Philippine theaters April 22, has re-assembled his cast and thrown a couple new faces into the mix for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes' next adventure. With the threat of Ultron looming on the horizon, Whedon will test his heroes even harder than he did in their first outing…and push himself further than before in the process.

In the film, Ultron comes to life as the result of some of Tony Stark’s experiments, a type of Frankenstein's monster gone wrong. In that regard, Whedon draws parallels between his villain and some of his heroes.

“You know, in the Marvel universe, there are a lot of Frankensteins,” Whedon posits. “Steve Rogers himself [is] one of the better-looking Frankensteins of our era. There's an element to that. There are a lot of people, whether they're trying to do good or bad, who think they have the next big idea. And the next big idea is usually a v…

In a series of events that could only happen in a SpongeBob movie, our heroes SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Sandy and Plankton take on superhero personas in Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies' new comedy adventure “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.” The superhero transformation required some reimagining on the part of the filmmakers. The super powers were inspired by each character’s personal interests. "SpongeBob becomes the Incredibubble, because he loves blowing bubbles," explains series creator Stephen Hillenburg. "Patrick loves ice cream, so his power is to summon it. Squidward plays the clarinet, so he becomes a music based hero named Sour Note. They did a great job capturing the spirit and emotions of these characters." "There were also a lot of discussions about how realistic we wanted the characters to appear,” Hillenburg explains. “Should Squidward look like a real octopus? Should Sandy looks like a real squirrel? Eventu…
