SCARLETT JOHANSSON TEMPTS AS PYTHON, KAA IN “THE JUNGLE BOOK”

Image
With only her voice, Scarlett Johansson made people madly fall in love with their computer's operating system in the futuristic drama “Her.” Now, Johansson once again uses her voice to capture hearts in Disney's new family adventure “The Jungle Book,” based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film.

Johansson provides the voice of Kaa sets her sights on Mowgli when she discovers him all alone in the jungle. The massive python uses her seductive voice and hypnotic gaze to entrance the man-cub, and Mowgli finds himself unable to resist her captivating embrace.

Says director Jon Favreau, “Mowgli is exploring different regions of the jungle—mistier, darker, more mysterious parts of the jungle. That’s where Kaa lives. That’s where she gets ahold of him—till Baloo rescues him and brings him back to his cave.”

The director says one of his most prominent memories of the 1967 animated movie was the snake. “I always remembered Kaa’s hypnotic eyes …

Image
Warner Bros. has released a second trailer for “The LEGO Batman Movie,” the animated Caped Crusader’s spinoff feature from the critically acclaimed box-office hit “The LEGO Movie.” Check out the TRAILER.

TO LOVE AND TO GUARD IN ROMANTIC ACTION COMEDY “MR. RIGHT”

Image
In the tradition of highly-successful romantic action comedies comes a one-of-a-kind love story in “Mr. Right” starring two of Hollywood’s well-sought actors Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell.

In “Mr. Right,” Martha (Anna Kendrick) discovers that her new beau, Francis (Sam Rockwell), is a professional assassin… with a cause. He kills the people ordering the hits. As the bodies pile up, Martha must decide whether to flee or join her man in the mayhem.

Sam Rockwell is that rare Hollywood star who's equally adept in somber dramas like the most recent Broadway revival “Fool For Love” and BAFTA award-winning “Moon” as he is playing quirky characters in such black-humored action fare “Seven Psychopaths” and “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.” When director Paco Cabezas met with the actor in late 2012, Rockwell immediately responded to Mr. Right 's subversive sense of humor. "I said 'yes' right away because Max Landis wrote a r…

Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

The film also stars Ana de Armas (“Knock Knock”) and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper,” “American Hustle”).

WILL “10 CLOVERFIELD LANE” GIVE JOHN GOODMAN HIS FIRST OSCAR NOM?

Image
First, Hollywood bible Variety proclaimed that John Goodman's turn in Paramount Pictures' mystery thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane” is “The First Truly Oscar-Worthy Performance of 2016.”
(Watch the latest trailer of “10 Cloverfield Lane” )
The article praises, “[H]is performance is impressive for its complexity. Working from a script that ebbs and flows with ease and tension, the actor’s work is like a waltz, gliding on the narrative’s rhythms, commanding acute attention every moment he’s on screen. It’s a clinic, really, a performance as compelling in its quieter moments as it is in its explosive ones. I wouldn’t flinch if someone called it Goodman’s best work.”
Then, two days later, popular movie site Collider ranked John Goodman at No.1 in its list of “25 Great Actors Who Still Don't Have an Oscar Nomination.” The site explained, “It’s not just the fact John Goodman has starred in so many classics (“Raising Arizona,” “Barton Fink,” “The Big Lebowski,” “O Brother, Where Art Th…

IDRIS ELBA SPEAKS FOR TIGER, SHERE KHAN IN “THE JUNGLE BOOK”

Image
Bengal tiger Shere Khan bears the scars of Man, which fuel his intense hatred of humans. Powerful and menacing, the fearsome tiger makes no secret of his feelings about man-cub Mowgli and his presence in the jungle. Shere Khan’s mission, above all else, is to ensure Mowgli—and the fire he knows Man wields—pose no future threat. Deep down, Shere Khan seeks revenge upon Man, and it’s Mowgli who will pay the price.

Recently winning the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Supporting Actor (“Beasts of No Nation”), Idris Elba brings the tiger Shere Khan to life, in Disney's new family adventure “The Jungle Book.” Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), the new movie is based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film.

REVIEW | Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Image
Two icons pitted against each other. Sounds exciting, even to a non-comic person like me. And ambitious. Can they pull it off? I'm not a fangirl. I just want to watch a great movie. I loved The Dark Knight Rises and was sorely disappointed by the traumatizing Man of Steel
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a mess. It lacks build-up, reason, and motivation. The series of events before the "fight night" is a snooze-fest, the relentless explosions and visual effects an eyesore, and the score just made everything exhausting.  I wanted more than empty CGI. CGI, by the way, Mr. Zack Snyder, should be utilized to support a story, and not the reason to see a movie.
Ben Affleck's Batman, thankfully, is not as annoying as you expect, but he's got no personality. He's just a vision of muscles. The annoying character here is the supremely annoying Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor, a paper-thin caricature with nothing to offer except his irritating signature mannerisms. Wh…

EISENBERG ADDS SINISTER HUMOR TO LEX LUTHOR IN “BATMAN v SUPERMAN”

Image
Academy Award-nominee for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network,” Jesse Eisenberg plays one of the most fascinating anti-heroes in cinema – Lex Luthor, in Warner Bros. Pictures' new action-adventure “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Eisenberg infuses the character with a very sinister humor, one that arises from an illogical obsession with Superman.

“Lex Luthor has always been one of the great DC villains. And one of the most epic stories in the canon was when Batman and Superman squared off against each other,” offers producer Charles Roven. “As we sought an expansion of the universe with this film, we felt that bringing these characters together was natural.”

To carry Lex Luthor into 2016, Oscar-winning screenwriter Chris Terrio (“Argo”) recalls asking himself, “What would a capitalist gone mad look like today?” Looking for real-world inspiration from many of the world’s largest high-tech corporations, he found an environment that “often cult…

J.J. ABRAMS AWAKENS “CLOVERFIELD” WITH UNOFFICAL SEQUEL

Image
While he was directing, producing and co-writing a little film called “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” J.J. Abrams still found some time left over to produce Paramount Pictures' new suspense thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane,” an “unofficial” sequel to the 2007 found-footage hit “Cloverfield” which he also produced. Described as a mere “blood relative” to “Cloverfield,” the new film “10 Cloverfield Lane” stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. The film's official synopsis only reads, “Monsters come in many forms.” Dan Trachtenberg directs “10 Cloverfield Lane” from a screenplay by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Q: In what aspects is “10 Cloverfield Lane” a “blood-relative” to “Cloverfield?” J.J. Abrams: Well, there are a number of connections, some obvious, some not. Things that I want people to sort of find on their own. Some are thematic, some are genre. But what defines a Cloverfield movie is part of a kind of bigger idea we had. This is sort of part a…

LUPITA NYONG'O LENDS VOICE TO WOLF, RAKSHA, IN “THE JUNGLE BOOK”

Image
Raksha, a loving and fiercely protective mother wolf, cares deeply for all of her pups—including man-cub Mowgli (Neel Sethi), whom she adopts as one of her own when he’s abandoned in the jungle as an infant.

Oscar® winner Lupita Nyong’o (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) was called on to help bring Raksha to life, in Disney's new family adventure “The Jungle Book,” based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film.

“We relied a little more on Kipling when it came to Raksha,” says director Jon Favreau. “The wolves have a much greater significance in his stories, which was important to me.”

“I just love my character,” says Nyong’o. “She is the protector, the eternal mother. The word Raksha actually means protection in Hindi. I felt really connected to that, wanting to protect a son that isn’t originally hers but one she’s taken for her own.

“I really enjoyed preparing for this and learning about wolves and how social they are, how they stick togeth…

“BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE” STARS KICK-OFF PROMO TOUR IN BEIJING

Image
Director Zack Snyder recently teamed up with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, bringing their new film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” to China's capital city, Beijing.

Speaking at the promotion event, Ben Affleck says it was "daunting" to play the iconic Batman in this superhero film.

"The biggest challenge going into was the sort of daunting aspect of playing a character who's got such a fixed place in people's minds already. You know people's expectations. I think that was the biggest challenge. I didn't get to create the character. I had to sort of recreate something and hope that it fit into people's, our idea of who Batman was already and hope that they would accept my nuances on it."

And Cavill returns to the role of Superman after pulling on the red cape in the 2013 reboot 'Man of Steel.'

The 32-year-old actor admits, the new film brought a more physical kind of challenge for him.

"Mostly, with a lot of imagination. The idea…

BEN KINGSLEY IS THE VOICE OF PANTHER, BAGHEERA, IN “THE JUNGLE BOOK”

Image
Bagheera is a sleek and stunning panther who rescued Mowgli when he was abandoned in the jungle as an infant. The effort bonded the big cat to the man-cub—indeed, Bagheera has a bit of a soft spot for the boy. As Mowgli’s mentor, Bagheera guides him to faithfully follow the laws of the jungle. And when it comes time for Mowgli to leave his jungle home, Bagheera feels it’s his duty to help the man-cub depart with dignity.

Academy Award® winner Ben Kingsley brings his noble voice to Bagheera in Disney's new family adventure “The Jungle Book.” “He just brought this elegance and refinement to the character, yet with great firmness,” says director Jon Favreau. “He’s an interesting dude with crazy range.”

Says Kingsley, “Bagheera is Mowgli’s adoptive parent. His role in Mowgli’s life is to educate, to protect and to guide.

“As an actor,” continues Kingsley, “I have to find my hook into the character. I decided that the role lent itself to the rhythm of the writing if my Bagheera was milita…

“10 CLOVERFIELD LANE” OPENS BIG IN NORTH AMERICA WITH $25.2-M

Image
Paramount Pictures' and Bad Robot's new mystery thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane” connected with American audiences in its opening weekend March 11 to 13, earning a whopping $25.2 million from 3,391 locations.

(Watch a new spot of “10 Cloverfield Lane”)

That’s a strong debut considering that the film about a woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who finds herself trapped in a doomsday bunker, waiting out the apocalypse with the neighborhood survivalists (John Goodman, John Gallagher Jr.), cost only $13 million to produce.

Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore credited Bad Robot chief J.J. Abrams with coming up with the concept for the twisty thriller while he was in production on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” He said the key was to make sure that none of the advertisements revealed any of the film’s surprises.

“We wanted to give people just enough clues to keep them excited, interested, and wanting more,” said Moore. “That’s rare in this day and age, when so much [information] is given out s…

“`Cloverfield’ was a familiar genre that was told in a very unique way. Similarly, we are a familiar genre that’s also told in a unique way. It’s not the same way: the first `Cloverfield’ had that awesome hook of being told in this found-footage experience. We have something else going for us that makes it unique. I think our structure’s very interesting and there’s things in it that you have t…

ONE OF THE WORST EVENTS IN HOLLYWOOD

Image
What tyrannical disservice could a democratic country, like the US of A, impose to its people? Why would a democratic country suddenly brandish communism in its own land?
World War is waving in the horizon, as the relations between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. deteriorated and the fear of the “Red Menace” reached unprecedented heights. A group called the House of Un-American Activities otherwise known as H.U.A.C., investigated thousands of Americans suspected of being communist sympathizers. Nobody was spared, when teachers, military contractors, civil servants, journalists, and others lost their jobs, their reputations, and even their families as suspicion and paranoia swept the nation. And Hollywood land and its denizens suffered from its claws and pangs.
