GADGETS THAT SAVE THE WORLD IN “KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE”

Image
Every hero is only as strong as their villain, of course.  And in the latest “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” that conflict comes from the introduction of Poppy Adams (Julianne Moore), a drug dealer who, as head of the mysterious Golden Circle criminal enterprise, sets in place a nefarious plan that sets her on a collision course with Eggsy (Taron Egerton). For director Matt Vaughn, the villain’s plot was of paramount importance – and to stop the ultimate heinous threat, the Kingsman are equipped with gadgets customized for the unrelenting explosive battle to save the world.
“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” won’t skimp on that patented Kingsman craziness, though, from an opening car chase in which Eggsy has to fight for his life in a Kingsman cab hurtling across London, to an all-out assault on Poppyland, and a barroom brawl which deliberately recalls the pub fight sequence from the first movie. “The fights are even more crazy,” says Egerton. “But in terms …

“AMERICAN MADE” FEATURETTE SHOWS CRUISE LAND PLANE ON HIS OWN

Image
Tom Cruise seems to outdo himself stunt-wise with every movie, but his latest for the drug cartel thriller American Made is simply off the charts.

In American Made's recently released `Crash Featurette', Cruise lands a light plane full of cocaine – all by himself -- in the middle of a street in Atlanta.

Cruise has been known to insist in doing even the riskiest stunts himself, in order to help each stunt sequence look more authentic to the audience.

"It can be pretty hair-raising - flying extremely fast, small airplanes, low to the ground, is a dangerous environment to be in just on its own,” American Made director Doug Liman tells Yahoo.

Opening in Philippine cinemas September 13, American Made is based on the outrageous (and real) exploits of Barry Seal (Tom Cuise), a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. History.

Once the hotshot airman gets caught up in a shadowy division of the government—running crates of …

FILMMAKERS DISCUSS WHAT MAKES “PATAY NA SI HESUS” SO ALIVE

Image
No one gets crucified in the new satirical comedy “Patay na si Hesus.” Well, no one or nothing except Pinoy cinema's tired cliches, our outdated biases, predictable expectations and actors' over-the-top performances.
The latter gets skewered by the cast's purposely deadpan dialogue delivery – led by the effortless Jaclyn Jose – rendering punchlines funnier, the stabs more razor-sharp.  Did we mention that most of the lines are in Cebuano? How more eccentric can this film get?
“Patay na si Hesus,” which opens in Philippine cinemas August 16 as part of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, is a quirky look at a family's roadtrip from Cebu to Dumaguete, en route to the wake of its estranged father, the titular Hesus.
Jose plays Iyay, the feisty mother to a brood of three: Hubert, who has Down Syndrome; Jude, a lovesick trans man; and Jay, who is living the bum life.  One unplanned detour comes after another, each pushing this family closer to confronting the past and figuring ou…
